Repairs are scheduled to begin April 30th on two Interstate 30 overpasses near New Boston that were damaged in February, according to officials with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). All work will be done at night to minimize the impact on traffic.
Texas Department of Transportation Atlanta District Spokesperson Marcus Sandifer says the structures crossing over I-30 at FM Road 992 and CR 2003 (Red Bayou Road) were hit and damaged on February 7th by an oversized load being transported through Bowie County on the Interstate highway. Sandifer says traffic was allowed to continue using FM 992 after an inspection showed limited damage to the cross beams. The CR 2003 crossing has been closed to through traffic since the incident.
Sandifer says a special TxDOT bridge crew from the Dallas District will begin work on the CR 2003 overpass Monday night. Once work is completed on it, the crew will move to the FM 992 overpass. All repairs are expected to take two to three weeks to complete. Work will be conducted Sunday through Thursday nights. Sandifer says work and detours will last from 8 p.m. each day to 6 a.m. the following day.
Sandifer says I-30 traffic will be detoured only while the crew is working on the CR 2003 overpass and will only affect eastbound traffic. All eastbound I-30 traffic will be detoured onto SH 8 down to US 82 to Spur 86 and then back onto I-30. Department of Public Safety officers will be assisting local TxDOT employees with traffic control.
Anyone with questions about the repair work or detours can call 903-628-2321 for more information. Adverse weather conditions can change or day expected work schedules.
